Relax with Dental Sedation
Comfort and relaxation may not be typically associated with dental treatment, but our goal is to help every patient feel comfortable and confident in the care we provide. For patients who are anxious or exhibit dental phobia, or who need an extensive restorative or oral surgery procedure, dental sedation can often provide a relaxing sense of calm before and during treatment.
About Dental Sedation
The right type and level of sedation you receive will depend on a several factors, including the severity of your anxiety, the extent of your treatment, and the details of your medical history.
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is a milder, inhaled sedative that is safe enough for children, and whose effects dissipate immediately after treatment. Oral conscious sedation, which is taken as a pill or liquid the night and/or morning before your procedure, produces more potent and lasting sedation effects.
If you choose oral sedation, then you should plan to bring a responsible adult with you to drive you home after the procedure. You will be responsive throughout the treatment, though you will remain foggy for a while afterwards, and your memory of your visit may be slightly hazy.
For more intense cases of dental anxiety, Dr. Nadella may suggest a combination of nitrous oxide and oral sedation to help patients remain calm enough to receive necessary dental treatment.
