Also known as a periodontal cleaning, scaling and root planing is the process of removing bacteria from your teeth’s roots (scaling) and polishing them (planing) to help prevent future bacteria from accumulating on them. This treatment is often recommended when patients exhibit early signs of gingivitis. If left untreated, gingivitis may lead to advanced forms of gum disease. For your comfort and to be more precise with our cleaning, we use ultrasonic technology to break up plaque and tartar. It is less invasive than traditional scaling and root planing.
