Helping Repair Teeth that are Chipped or Worn Down
If you have chipped or worn-down teeth, two cosmetic dentistry services may be appropriate to help restore your smile. They are called bonding and contouring, and while they are separate services, they are often performed together. They are designed to help reshape one or more of your teeth either by adding to or modifying a tooth’s enamel.
What is Bonding?
Tooth bonding uses safe, tooth-colored composite resin to cover and build up a tooth’s structure. It does not require permanent alterations to a tooth. After we bond the resin to your tooth, we will sculpt it to the correct contour, harden it, and then polish it for an eye-pleasing finish. By concealing a small portion of your tooth, bonding can address several cosmetic issues, such as severe stains or discolorations that do not respond to professional teeth-whitening treatments, chips, cracks, and gaps in the teeth.
What is Contouring?
Tooth contouring is the process of reshaping a tooth’s enamel by lightly and carefully sculpting it. The alterations from contouring are minor and do not affect a tooth’s structural integrity. Contouring can address such issues as rough areas on a tooth, jagged edges, minor chips, and overlapping teeth.
